The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), whereas, Alico has undertaken the Façade scope of this Unique project. The GEM is the largest archaeological museum in the world. With a total land area of 490,000 m2 of which 167,000 m2 is built-up, the space is divided among Exhibition galleries, Conference center and landscaping, commercial retail, and restaurants. The Museum is a building of rare complexity. Challenges included: an elegant 33,000 m² articulated structure, consisting of cascading panels with not one identical square meter. Its dimensions, its complexity, and its slopes represented a triple challenge for engineers. The scope included Aluminum Expanded metal lath panel located at the roof of the museum around 130,000 m2 of 5 mm & 4mm Panels with anodized finish and special alloy further to the Aluminum stick curtain wall & Skylights system around 18,000m2 further to the innovative stainless-steel Curtain wall systems that were unique in design first to be introduced. Not to mention the Redirecting Glass façade Systems which redirect the light on top of the Ceiling to protect the Monuments.
